AJAX – AWAY SHIRT 2016/2017
Ajax are one of the most iconic and successful clubs in European football, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Renowned for their commitment to attacking football and youth development, the club has produced generations of world-class talent and lifted numerous domestic titles, as well as four European Cups.
They play their home matches at the Johan Cruyff Arena, a modern stadium named after the club’s greatest ever player and a symbol of Ajax’s footballing philosophy.
The club wore this away shirt during the 2016/2017 season, a memorable campaign that showcased Ajax’s exciting young squad under manager Peter Bosz. Competing in the Eredivisie, Ajax finished 2nd, narrowly missing out on the title to Feyenoord on the final day of the season by a single point.
In European competition, Ajax enjoyed a remarkable run in the UEFA Europa League. Playing an energetic and attacking style, they reached the final after overcoming teams such as Schalke 04 and Lyon in dramatic fashion as they ran out 4-3 and 5-4 aggregate winners respectively.
The final, held in Stockholm, saw Ajax face Manchester United. Despite their impressive journey, the young Dutch side were defeated 2-0, finishing as runners-up but earning widespread praise for their performances throughout the tournament.
Domestically, Ajax reached the final of the KNVB Cup but were beaten 2-1 by Vitesse, missing out on silverware despite a strong showing.
This season proved to be a breakthrough moment for several emerging stars, including Matthijs de Ligt, Frenkie de Jong, and Kasper Dolberg, who have gone on to become key figures for club and their countries.
The team’s top scorer was Danish forward Kasper Dolberg, who netted 16 league goals in an outstanding debut season.
