The club wore this smart away shirt during the 2009/2010 season, while under the management of their former player and current Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. Barcelona enjoyed a highly successful campaign, claiming an amazing four of the six competitions available to them. In La Liga, they edged out rivals Real Madrid to win the title by 3 points. In Europe, they reached the Champions League semi-finals, losing narrowly 3–2 on aggregate to eventual winners Inter Milan.

During the January transfer window, Barcelona made a high-profile swap, sending Samuel Eto’o to Inter Milan in exchange for Zlatan Ibrahimović and 48 million euros at the time. At the heart of their attack, footballing royalty Lionel Messi finished as Barcelona’s top scorer for the season, netting 47 goals in all competitions, including 37 in La Liga and 8 in the Champions League, earning him the golden boot in both competitions.
