GLASGOW RANGERS - AWAY SHIRT 2022/2023
Glasgow Rangers, founded in 1872 by four young men rowing on Glasgow Green, are one of the most decorated clubs in world football, with a record 55 Scottish league titles and a record 28 League Cup wins to their name. The Light Blues - or simply The Gers - play their home games at Ibrox, the Archibald Leitch-designed stadium that has stood as the home of the club since 1929.
The 2022/2023 campaign, in which this striking away shirt was worn, was a season of two managers and two competitions falling agonisingly short. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who had taken Rangers to the Europa League final in Seville the previous spring, was sacked on 21 November with the side nine points off Celtic. Former Steven Gerrard assistant Michael Beale was installed a week later, having walked away from QPR after less than six months in charge. Under their joint stewardship Rangers finished 2nd in the Scottish Premiership, seven points behind a Celtic side that retained the title.
The cup story was a hard one for Rangers fans. They lost the Viaplay Cup final 2-1 to Celtic at Hampden in February, Kyogo Furuhashi bagging a brace for the holders, and were then dumped out of the Scottish Cup semi-final by the same opponents - a single Jota goal at Hampden in April ending hopes of silverware.
In Europe, Rangers' return to the Champions League group stage for the first time since 2010 ended in unwanted history: six defeats from six, a -20 goal difference, the worst group-stage record the competition had ever seen.
Captain and right-back James Tavernier finished as Rangers' top scorer with 16 league goals (18 in all competitions) - an extraordinary return for a defender from open play and penalties combined. Croatian summer signing Antonio Colak wasn't far behind on 14 in the league in what would be his only season at Ibrox before a quick sale to Parma.
