INTER MILAN – AWAY SHIRT 2010/2011
Football Club Internazionale Milano, commonly known as Inter Milan or simply Inter, are a professional football club based in Milan, Italy, competing in Serie A, the top tier of Italian football. Founded in 1908, Inter are one of Italy’s most decorated clubs and the only Italian side never to have been relegated from the top division. The club’s honours include multiple Serie A titles, Coppa Italia trophies, and UEFA Champions League triumphs, highlighted by their historic treble-winning season in 2009/2010. Less than a week after completing said treble, on the 28th of May 2010 then Inter manager José Mourinho left the club and joined Real Madrid. On the 10 June, Inter signed Rafael Benítez from Liverpool on a two-year contract, ending his six-year stint.
During the 2010/2011 season, Inter wore this smart away shirt, manufactured by Nike. Home matches were played at the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza (San Siro), which the club shares with city rivals AC Milan.
The season began under Benítez, who guided Inter to victory in the Supercoppa Italiana against Roma, but inconsistent form led to his dismissal in December 2010. On Christmas Eve of 2010, he was replaced by Leonardo, under whom Inter recovered strongly. The Nerazzurri finished 2nd in Serie A, securing qualification for the following season’s UEFA Champions League, finishing behind AC Milan.
Samuel Eto’o produced one of the finest seasons of his career. He finished as Inter’s top scorer with 21 league goals and an outstanding 37 goals in all competitions. He was supported by key players such as Wesley Sneijder, Diego Milito, Javier Zanetti, Maicon, and Lucio, all of whom played influential roles throughout the campaign.
In domestic cup competition, Inter enjoyed success by winning the Coppa Italia, defeating Palermo 3–1 in the final, adding another piece of silverware.
In Europe, Inter entered the UEFA Champions League as defending champions. They progressed from the group stage finishing second behind a Gareth Bale led Tottenham Hotspur. In the Round of 16, they eliminated Bayern Munich on away goals, reaffirming the previous season's final. Their European run ended in the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Schalke 04, losing 7–3 on aggregate.
