Lyon 2012/2013 Away Shirt

OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS – AWAY SHIRT 2012/2013

Olympique Lyonnais, commonly known as Lyon or OL, are one of France’s most successful modern-era clubs, based in the city of Lyon in eastern France. Founded in 1950, the club rose to prominence during the 2000s, winning seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles between 2002 and 2008 - a run that accounts for all of the club’s league championships. In addition, Lyon have lifted five Coupe de France trophies and one Coupe de la Ligue.

During the 2012/2013 season, Lyon wore this striking away shirt, manufactured by adidas, as part of their ongoing partnership that began in 2010. Home matches continued to be played at the historic Stade de Gerland, the club’s home since 1950, prior to their move to the Groupama Stadium in 2016.

The 2012/2013 campaign marked Lyon’s second season under head coach Rémi Garde, a period marked by transition, financial restraint, and a reliance on youth. Despite these challenges, OL once again delivered domestically, finishing 3rd in Ligue 1. This result secured qualification for the UEFA Champions League play-offs and extended Lyon’s extraordinary run of consecutive top-four finishes, which ultimately reached 15 seasons.

In attack, Bafétimbi Gomis led the side, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 16 Ligue 1 goals. He was supported by the emerging Alexandre Lacazette, who was beginning to establish himself in the first team, as well as midfield contributions from Clément Grenier and Yoann Gourcuff. The squad also featured several players who would become central figures in Lyon’s future. Maxime Gonalons captained the side, while Samuel Umtiti continued his early development after making his debut the previous season. In goal, Rémy Vercoutre was the first-choice goalkeeper, but a young Anthony Lopes gained valuable senior experience.

Cup competitions proved frustrating. In the Coupe de France, Lyon suffered one of the competition’s biggest shocks, being eliminated in the Round of 64 by third-tier side Épinal, who held OL to a 3–3 draw before winning on penalties. In the Coupe de la Ligue, Lyon were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Nice, losing 3–1. They did, however, start the season off brightly winning the Trophée des Champions against Montpellier.

In Europe, Lyon were eliminated in the Round of 32 by Tottenham Hotspur. The first leg at White Hart Lane ended 2–1 in favor of Spurs, with Gareth Bale scoring both goals with two excellent free-kicks for Tottenham and Samuel Umtiti netting Lyon’s lone strike. In the return leg at the Stade de Gerland, the match finished 1–1, with Maxime Gonalons giving Lyon the lead before Mousa Dembélé’s late goal sealed Spurs’ 3–2 win on aggregate.
