OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE – AWAY SHIRT 2005/2006
Olympique de Marseille are a professional football club based in the port city of Marseille in southern France, competing in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football. Founded in 1899, OM are one of just two French clubs to have won the UEFA Champions League, lifting the trophy in 1993. The club plays home matches at the legendary Stade Vélodrome, which is capable of holding over 60,000 supporters.
The 2005/2006 away shirt is closely associated with a transitional yet memorable era for the club. Under head coach Jean Fernandez, this season marked the true breakout of Franck Ribéry, whose pace and flair quickly made him a fan favourite and one of the most exciting players in Europe. He was supported by former Arsenal, Manchester City, and West Ham player Samir Nasri.
In Ligue 1, Marseille finished 5th, securing European qualification after a competitive and hard-fought campaign. Their most notable domestic achievement came in the Coupe de France, where OM reached the final, setting up a high-profile clash against arch-rivals Paris Saint-Germain - a rivalry known as Le Classique. Unfortunately, Marseille fell 2–1 in the final, narrowly missing out on silverware.
In Europe, OM also enjoyed a solid UEFA Cup run, reaching the Round of 16 before being beaten by Zenit St. Petersburg 2-1 on aggregate.
