OLYMPIQUE DE MARSEILLE – HOME SHIRT 2016/2017
Marseille are one of France’s most historic and passionately supported clubs, based on the Mediterranean coast in the south of the country. Known for their loyal fanbase and intense atmosphere, they have secured multiple domestic honours, including league titles and national cups, as well as their famous UEFA Champions League triumph in 1993.
They play their home matches at the iconic Stade Vélodrome, one of Europe’s most recognisable stadiums.
The club wore this home shirt during the 2016/2017 season, a transitional period for Marseille under new ownership. Competing in Ligue 1, the team finished 5th and secured qualification for European competition the following season.
In domestic cup competitions, Marseille reached the Coupe de France semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Monaco after losing in extra time 4-3. Their Coupe de la Ligue performance wasn't so good and they were knocked out in the Quarter finals to Toulouse whose winning goal was scored by Martin Braithwaite.
This season laid important groundwork for the club’s resurgence, with several key players emerging and helping to restore Marseille’s competitiveness both domestically and in Europe.
The team's top scorer was former Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis with an impressive 20 in the League.
