PESCARA – HOME SHIRT 2002/2003
Delfino Pescara 1936 is a professional Italian football club based in the city of Pescara, in the Abruzzo region. Known as I Delfini (The Dolphins), they play their home matches at the Stadio Adriatico, which has a capacity of just over 20,000 spectators. The club has competed in Serie A on seven occasions, but their most recent appearance was all the way back in the 2016/2017 season.
This cracking home shirt was worn during the 2002/2003 season, when Pescara played in Group B of Serie C1 under the guidance of coach Ivo Iaconi. The team officially finished with 66 points, securing second place behind Avellino. Both clubs ended the season level on points, but Avellino claimed first place thanks to winning both head-to-head encounters.
Controversially, Pescara actually earned 69 points over the course of the season - enough to top the league - but were docked three points at the end of the campaign. The deduction stemmed from a match that took place on April 19, 2003, in which Pescara had defeated Paternò 1-0. The result was later overturned by the Sports Judge because Pescara fielded a suspended player.
Despite this setback, Pescara achieved promotion to Serie B by winning the play-offs. They overcame Sambenedettese in the semi-final and Martina in the final.
Andrea Cecchini was the club’s top scorer that season, netting 23 goals in total - 19 in the league, three in the play-offs, and one in the Coppa Italia.
