However, their form dipped as the campaign progressed. In the UEFA Champions League, they reached the quarter-finals but were eliminated on away goals by eventual finalists Monaco. A 4th-place finish in La Liga was a disappointment after winning the title the previous year. In the Copa del Rey, they made it to the final but were defeated 3–2 after extra time by Zaragoza.
