ADO DEN HAAG - AWAY SHIRT 2017/2018

Founded on 1 February 1905, ADO Den Haag are one of the grand old names of Dutch football, based in the seat of national government at The Hague. The club are known as De Ooievaars (The Storks), a nod to the bird that sits on the city's coat of arms, and also answer to De Residentieclub (The Residence Club). They play their home matches at the Cars Jeans Stadion in the south-west of the city, the arena they have called home since leaving the old Zuiderpark ground in 2007.

The 2017/2018 Eredivisie season, during which this smart away shirt was worn, was one of ADO's brighter recent campaigns. Under manager Alfons Groenendijk, the side finished seventh in the table on 45 points, enough to reach the end-of-season European play-offs for the first time since 2010/2011. For a club that had spent much of the decade scrapping around the lower half, it felt like real progress.

There was less joy in the cup. ADO's run in the KNVB Cup was cut short by eventual finalists Feyenoord, who proved too strong over the tie and ended Den Haag's hopes of silverware early.

The season belonged to Bjørn Johnsen. The towering Norwegian-American striker plundered 19 league goals to claim the Karel Jansen trophy as the club's player of the year, with the creative Abdenasser El Khayati supplying much of the ammunition. Johnsen's form did not go unnoticed, and the summer of 2018 brought a 2.3 million euro move to AZ Alkmaar.
