ALGERIA – HOME SHIRT 2022
Known as Les Fennecs (The Desert Foxes), Algeria are currently ranked as the 34th best national team according to FIFA. Their home matches are played mainly at the Stade Nelson Mandela in Algiers. Formed in 1962 after independence, Algeria have became a major force in African football. The team won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1990 and again in 2019, and memorably reached the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. They've also qualified for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada & Mexico and will be aiming to improve on that Round of 16 placing.
The modern era of the national team has been defined by standout talents. Riyad Mahrez is widely regarded as an Algerian icon, celebrated as a Premier League champion with Leicester City and later as a key figure in Manchester City’s domestic and European success. The squad has also featured Rayan Aït-Nouri, whose rise in European football has resulted in him following in Mahrez's footsteps and joining Manchester City. Adding a unique storyline, Zinedine Zidane’s son also represents Algeria, despite his father’s legendary career with France.
This 2022 home shirt, manufactured by adidas, is predominantly white with a green graphic pattern and subtle gold detailing, combining modern style with national identity.
2022 proved to be a challenging one on the pitch. Algeria entered the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon as defending champions but were eliminated in the group stage, ending a long unbeaten run. Later that year, the team narrowly missed qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, losing to Cameroon on away goals in a dramatic playoff tie.
