Aston Villa is a professional football club based in the borough of Aston in Birmingham.  Their home ground is Villa Park, where they have played since 1897.  Villa are one of the founding members of the football league. They are one of only 5 English clubs to have won the European Cup, which they won in the 1981-82 season.  

The 2017–18 EFL Championship season was Aston Villa's 143rd season in English football. It was the club's second consecutive season in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League during the 2015–16 season. Villa secured a play-off place and defeated Middlesbrough to reach the final, but lost 1–0 to Fulham in the final and thus missed out on promotion to the Premier League. England legend John Terry captained the side that season.
