AZ ALKMAAR – HOME SHIRT 2009/2010

Alkmaar Zaanstreek (AZ) are based in the city of Alkmaar in Northern Holland and are famously nicknamed De Kaaskoppen (The Cheeseheads), a nod to the city’s historic cheese markets.

AZ wore this home shirt during the 2009/2010 season as reigning Eredivisie champions following their unforgettable title win the year before. Ronald Koeman took charge of the team for the campaign, replacing Louis van Gaal who had earned himself a move to Euorpean Giants Bayern Munich.

It was a season of mixed fortunes on the domestic front. In the Eredivisie, AZ finished in 5th place, securing European qualification playoffs, but falling short of defending their league crown.

In cup competition, AZ were eliminated in the fourth round of the KNVB Cup, though they began the season in style by lifting the Johan Cruyff Shield with a commanding 5–1 victory over Heerenveen.

On the European stage, AZ competed in the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in their history but were unable to progress, finishing bottom of their group after drawing four matches and losing two.

The club played their home matches at the AFAS Stadion.
