BAYER LEVERKUSEN – HOME SHIRT 2023/2024
Bayer 04 Leverkusen were founded in 1904 by employees of the Bayer pharmaceutical company. Based in the city of Leverkusen, North Rhine-Westphalia, the club are nicknamed Die Werkself. They play their home matches at the BayArena. Their main rivals are 1. FC Köln, with whom they contest the fierce Rhine Derby.
The 2023/24 season, during which this traditional home shirt was worn, was incredible for Leverkusen. Following a 5-0 win over Werder Bremen on 14 April 2024, the club secured its first-ever Bundesliga title and their first major trophy since 1993. Even more impressively, Leverkusen became the first team in Bundesliga history to go an entire season unbeaten, finishing with 28 wins and 6 draws.
On 9 May 2024, after a 2–2 draw against Roma in the Europa League semi-final second leg, Leverkusen broke a European record for the longest unbeaten run in competitive matches (49), surpassing Benfica’s 48-match streak set in 1965. Over this remarkable run, the team netted an astonishing 17 stoppage-time goals and 34 from the 80th minute onwards.
Their unbeaten streak finally came to an end at 51 matches with a 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League final on 22 May. Leverkusen finished the season on a high note just three days later though, lifting the DFB-Pokal after defeating Kaiserslautern.
