NEW YORK CITY - AWAY SHIRT 2015
New York City FC is a professional football club based in New York City, competing in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer, the top tier of football in the United States. The club is 80% owned by City Football Group, which also owns clubs such as Manchester City, Montevideo City Torque, Girona, and several others. NYCFC became the twentieth expansion team in MLS and the second in the New York metropolitan area, joining the New York Red Bulls with whom they contest the Hudson River Derby.
The team plays its home matches at the iconic Yankee Stadium, which can host 28,743 fans for football matches. Starting in the 2022 season, NYCFC began staging at least six of its seventeen home games at Citi Field in Queens, just across the street from their future stadium, Etihad Park, which is scheduled to open in 2027.
This striking away shirt was worn by New York City FC during their inaugural MLS season. The squad featured several notable names, including England and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, Italian maestro Andrea Pirlo, Manchester City academy graduate Angeliño, and current Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola. Despite this star-studded lineup, the club struggled in their first season, finishing 8th out of 10 in the Eastern Conference, while their cross-town rivals topped the league.
