Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, commonly known as PSG, are one of the most successful clubs in French football history. Founded in 1970, the Paris-based club plays its home matches at the iconic Parc des Princes, which holds just under 48,000 spectators. By the mid-2010s, PSG had firmly established themselves as the dominant force in domestic French football.
PSG wore this away shirt during the 2016/2017 season, a campaign that marked the beginning of a new era for the club. It was their first season without talisman Zlatan Ibrahimović since his arrival in 2012, following his departure to Manchester United in the summer of 2016. His absence signaled a shift in attacking responsibility and leadership within the squad.
Under new manager Unai Emery, PSG faced a more competitive domestic campaign than in previous years. They finished 2nd in Ligue 1 with 87 points, narrowly missing out on the title to AS Monaco, who enjoyed a remarkable season in Kylian Mbappe's breakthrough year.
Despite falling short in the league, PSG still secured silverware by winning both domestic cup competitions. They defeated Angers SCO in the Coupe de France final and AS Monaco in the Coupe de la Ligue final, maintaining their stronghold in French cup competitions.
In Ibrahimović’s absence, Edinson Cavani stepped up as the team’s main striker, enjoying a prolific season with 49 goals in all competitions, including 35 in Ligue 1, which earned him the league’s Golden Boot. He was supported by key players such as Ángel Di María, Marco Verratti, and Thiago Silva.
In the UEFA Champions League, PSG experienced one of the most dramatic moments in the competition’s history. After defeating FC Barcelona 4–0 in the first leg of the Round of 16, they suffered a stunning 6–1 defeat in the return leg at Camp Nou, resulting in a 6–5 aggregate loss - one of the most remarkable comebacks ever seen in European football.
