SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY – HOME SHIRT 2009/2010 & 2010/2011

Sheffield Wednesday is one of two professional football clubs in the English city of Sheffield, the other being Sheffield United. The two clubs share a fierce rivalry, contesting the Steel City Derby - a name that reflects Sheffield’s historic association with steel production.

Wednesday are the third oldest football club in England and play their home matches at one of the country’s most iconic grounds, Hillsborough. Although they have not featured in the Premier League since 2000, they remain a historically significant club with a large and loyal fanbase.

This home shirt was worn by the Owls across two consecutive seasons. The first was the 2009/2010 campaign, which ended in relegation to League One after finishing 21st. Their fate came down to the final day, a crucial “six-pointer” against fellow relegation-threatened Crystal Palace. The match ended 2-2 - a result that was not enough to save Wednesday in a must-win scenario.

The following season saw the Owls wearing the same shirt under very different circumstances, though the outcome was also disappointing. Initially tipped as promotion contenders, their form quickly declined, and they ultimately finished a disappointing 15th.
