Spartak Moscow are a Russian team based in the capital city of Moscow. The club were founded in 1922 and are one of the most popular and successful teams in the country.

Spartak play in the Russian Premier League, the highest tier of professional football in Russia. They are historically the most decorated club in Russian football, particularly dominant during the Soviet era. Spartak play their home matches at the Otkritie Bank Arena, a modern 45,000-seat stadium opened in 2014.

The 2021/2022 season was a mixed campaign domestically, with Spartak finishing 10th of 16 in the league - a big drop from 2nd the season before. However, they enjoyed a strong run in European competition under manager Rui Vitória.

Wearing this smart home shirt, Spartak competed in the UEFA Europa League, where they topped their group ahead of teams such as Napoli and Leicester City. They advanced directly to the Round of 16 and were drawn against RB Leipzig, but the tie never took place after UEFA banned Russian teams from their competitions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Leipzig were handed a bye into the quarterfinals.
