SPORTING CLUBE DA PRAIA – HOME SHIRT 2025/2026

Sporting Clube da Praia were founded in 1923 and are the oldest football club on the island of Santiago, as well as Cape Verde's capital city, Praia. This also makes them the third oldest in all of Cape Verde! With a storied history, the club has won 44 official titles - 14 national championships and 30 regional titles. Sporting Clube da Praia is one of the few southern clubs on the island to have never been relegated.

Following a tradition common among Portuguese-speaking countries, the team nicknamed Lion di Kapital (the Lion of the Capital), was established as an affiliate of Sporting Lisbon.

The club’s golden era came between 2006 and 2009, when they claimed an extraordinary four consecutive national championships. Today, local competition is fierce. Under the current system, Sporting must first win the Santiago South Premier Division to qualify for the National Championship. This makes the regional league both thrilling and challenging, a fact underscored by the club’s last national title coming in 2017. Lion di Kapital are now determined to reclaim their place at the top.
