TURKEY – HOME SHIRT 2000
Turkey’s national team represents a nation with a passionate footballing culture and a growing presence on the international stage. While much of their major success would come in the years that followed, the late 1990s and early 2000s marked an important period of development, laying the foundations for future achievement.
This progress was driven by key figures such as Hakan Şükür, Okan Buruk, Emre Belözoğlu, Rüştü Reçber and Alpay Özalan, who helped elevate Turkey’s competitiveness in European and international football.
In 2000, Turkey wore this classic red home shirt, featuring white detailing in keeping with the national colours.
During EURO 2020, Turkey advanced from the group stage into the knockout rounds, but were ultimately eliminated in the quarter-finals by Portugal, losing 2-0. Their campaign was hampered by a red card in the 29th minute and a 45'+6 penalty that was saved by legendary goalkeeper Vítor Baía.
As of 2026, Turkey remain in contention for a place at the FIFA World Cup, having secured a spot in the European qualifying playoffs. They will need to navigate a difficult path against strong opposition, but with a blend of experienced players and emerging talent, they will believe they have a strong chance of reaching the tournament. To do so, they must first overcome Romania, before facing either Slovakia or Kosovo for a place at the 2026 World Cup - so it certainly won’t be straightforward, but being the highest ranking side out of the 4, they will fancy their chances!
Even if they fail to qualify for World Cup 2026, Turkey have been named as a co-host for Euro 2032 and will qualify automatically as a result. With a golden generation coming through with youngsters like Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz - who ought to be peaking around this time - Turkey fans will be looking forward to this one.
