UNITED STATES - HOME SHIRT 2006
The United States men's national team are one of CONCACAF's heavyweights and a rising force in the global game, representing a country whose footballing star has climbed sharply over the past four decades. Known to fans as the USMNT, the Stars and Stripes finished third at the inaugural 1930 FIFA World Cup, have lifted seven CONCACAF Gold Cup titles, and have built one of the most rapidly growing fan bases in international football.
This legacy has been shaped by legendary figures such as Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Brian McBride and Tab Ramos, whose brilliance has defined American football across generations.
The United States wore this striking home shirt at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany under manager Bruce Arena, drawn into a difficult group alongside Italy, Ghana, and the Czech Republic. The USMNT's tournament got off to a calamitous start with a 3-0 defeat to the Czechs in Gelsenkirchen, before producing the famous 1-1 draw with eventual world champions Italy at Kaiserslautern - a match that featured three red cards, including Daniele De Rossi's notorious elbow on Brian McBride. A 2-1 defeat to Ghana, sealed by a controversial late penalty, sent the Stars and Stripes home at the group stage with just one point, despite the rare honour of being the only nation to take any points from Italy's title-winning run.
As of 2026, the United States are once again welcoming the FIFA World Cup to home soil as one of the host nations, with Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino at the helm. Drawn into Group D alongside Turkey, Australia and Paraguay, the Stars and Stripes open their campaign in Los Angeles on 12 June. Captain Christian Pulisic - in the form of his life after a sparkling season with AC Milan - leads a squad that includes Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Gio Reyna, with the home nation aiming for their deepest World Cup run since the 2002 quarter-final.
