VFL BOCHUM 1848 – HOME SHIRT 2011/2012
VfL Bochum are a German professional football club based in Bochum, North Rhine-Westphalia. They currently compete in the 2. Bundesliga after being relegated from the top flight in the 2024/2025 season. Remarkably, the club traces its origins back to 26 July 1848, making it one of the oldest sporting organisations in the world.
Bochum play their home matches at the Vonovia-Ruhrstadion, which has a capacity of 27,599.
The season in which this Nike home shirt was worn was a difficult one for the club. The previous year, Bochum finished 3rd in the 2. Bundesliga but narrowly missed promotion after losing 2–1 on aggregate to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the promotion play-offs, forcing them to spend another year in Germany's second tier.
Hopes of improving on that campaign quickly faded. Bochum ultimately finished 11th, only six points above the relegation zone. Japanese winger Takashi Inui finished as their top scorer with seven goals and moved to Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season off the back of that.
There was at least a brief cup run: Bochum reached the third round of the DFB-Pokal but were drawn against European giants Bayern Munich, who ended their journey with a 2–1 victory.
