FC VOLENDAM – AWAY SHIRT 2022/2023
Football Club Volendam is a professional side based in the fishing town of Volendam, in the north of the Netherlands.
Known as “De Palingboeren” (The Eel Farmers), the club has long carried the nickname of the ‘heen-en-weer club’ due to its frequent movement between divisions.
During the 2022/2023 season, in which this distinctive away shirt - sponsored by the Johan Cruyff Foundation - was worn, Volendam competed in the Eredivisie following promotion from the Eerste Divisie the previous year. The campaign marked their return to the Dutch top flight after a 14-year absence, having last been relegated in the 2008/2009 season.
The away shirt itself featured a clean, modern design, providing a sharp contrast to the club’s traditional orange home colours. It became a symbol of resilience during a challenging but successful season back at the highest level.
Under the guidance of manager Wim Jonk, Volendam managed to secure survival, finishing 14th in the Eredivisie - eight points clear of relegation.
At the back, former Chelsea centre-back Xavier Mbuyamba emerged as one of the team’s standout performers. However, it was Carel Eiting who proved crucial to their survival, contributing 13 goals and assists in a season where the club scored just 31 in total.
