SAMSUNSPOR – THIRD SHIRT 2021/2022
Samsunspor, officially known as Samsunspor Kulübü Derneği, is a Turkish professional football club based in the city of Samsun on the country’s northern Black Sea coastline. The club currently competes in the Turkish top flight and recently achieved one of their most impressive finishes in its history, placing third ahead of Beşiktaş J.K. to qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Kırmızı Şimşekler (The Red Lightning) play their home matches at the Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium, which opened in 2017 and has a capacity of 33,919.
Samsunspor hold the record for the most Turkish First League titles - which is the Turkish second division - with seven championships to their name. They are also the only Turkish club to have defeated an English side both home and away, achieving this feat against Crystal Palace in the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1998.
Samsunspor wore this third shirt during the 2021/2022 season, when they finished 7th in the TFF First League.
This shirt holds particular significance as it was introduced to support the campaign to end violence against women. Branded as “The Heaviest Jersey in the World,” it featured the message “No to violence against women” in 15 different languages. As part of the awareness initiative, 10% of the proceeds from shirt sales were donated to foundations supporting women who are victims of violence.
The club earned promotion to the Turkish Süper Lig for the 2023/2024 season and finished 13th, securing their place in the top division for the following year.
