SAMSUNSPOR – THIRD SHIRT 2021/2022
Samsunspor Kulübü Derneği, commonly known as Samsunspor, is a Turkish professional football club based in the city of Samsun, which sits on the country’s northern coastline.
Kırmızı Şimşekler (The Red Lightning), play their home matches at the Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadium, which was opened in 2017 and has a capacity of 33,919.
Samsunspor hold the record for the most First League titles, with 7 to their name. Interestingly, Samsun are the only Turkish team to have ever beaten an English club in both a home and away fixture (Crystal Palace).
Samsunspor wore this third shirt in the 2021/2022 season, when finishing in 7th place in TFF League 1.
This shirt has significance as it was introduced to support the campaign to stop violence against women. The shirt includes the slogan “The heaviest jersey in the world” and the message “No to violence against women” in 15 different languages. In the awareness campaign carried out by Samsunspor, 10% of the income from the sale of the shirts is being donated to foundations working for the benefit of women who are victims of violence.
The club were promoted to the Turkish Super Lig for the 23/24 season and finished in 13th place, retaining their league place for the following year.
