GALATASARAY – HOME SHIRT 2016/2017
Galatasaray Spor Kulübü, commonly known as Galatasaray, are one of Turkey’s most successful and widely supported football clubs, based in Istanbul. Founded in 1905, the club has won numerous Süper Lig titles and remains the only Turkish team to have claimed a major European trophy, winning the UEFA Cup in 2000. They play their home matches at the Türk Telekom Stadium, known for its intense atmosphere.
During the 2016/2017 season, Galatasaray wore this traditional home shirt, featuring the club’s iconic red and yellow halves. It was a campaign of transition, with the club looking to rebuild and return to the top of Turkish football.
Galatasaray finished in 4th in the Süper Lig, securing qualification for European competition the following season. Despite inconsistency at times, the squad showed flashes of quality, particularly in attack.
The standout player was former Ballon d'Or hopeful Wesley Sneijder, who played a key creative role, while Lukas Podolski contributed important goals before departing the club mid-season. Eren Derdiyok finished as one of the team’s leading scorers in the league.
In domestic cup competition, Galatasaray enjoyed success by winning the Turkish Super Cup, defeating Beşiktaş in the final on penalties to secure silverware.
