LEGIA WARSAW – FOURTH SHIRT 2021/2022

Legia Warsaw, officially known as Legia Warszawa, are among Poland’s most historic and successful football clubs. Based in the capital and founded in 1916, the team play their home matches at the Stadion Wojska Polskiego, which is an atmospheric ground that has hosted decades of domestic triumphs and unforgettable European nights. As the most decorated side in Polish football, Legia have won numerous Ekstraklasa titles, Polish Cups, and Super Cups, firmly establishing themselves as a dominant force in the national game.

Their 2021/2022 campaign, during which this uniquely red fourth shirt was worn, was nevertheless one of the most turbulent in the club’s modern history. Despite entering the season as reigning champions, Legia struggled heavily in the league, enduring managerial changes and an extended run of poor form. They ultimately finished 10th in the Ekstraklasa - far below expectations.

Their European journey, however, offered some standout moments. After progressing through the qualifying rounds, Legia reached the UEFA Europa League group stage, taking on high-profile opponents such as Leicester City, Napoli, and Spartak Moscow. Early shock victories over Spartak and Leicester provided memorable highlights in an otherwise difficult year, even if they ultimately weren’t enough to secure progression.

In the Puchar Polski, their domestic cup competition, Legia advanced to the semi-finals but were ultimately eliminated by Raków Częstochowa - who not only went on to win the trophy but had also defeated them earlier in the Super Cup.

Mahir Emreli finished the season as Legia’s top scorer in all competitions, despite moving clubs in January, which highlights how poor their season was.
