LILLE OSC - HOME SHIRT 2013/2014

Lille OSC were formed in 1944 through the merger of Olympique Lillois and SC Fives, and represent the historic city of Lille in northern France, close to the Belgian border. Known as Les Dogues (The Great Danes), the club had recently moved into the Grand Stade Lille Métropole, a 50,000-capacity arena opened in 2012, complete with a retractable roof.

The 2013/2014 campaign, during which this red home shirt was worn, was Lille's seventieth season in existence and their fourteenth consecutive year in the French top flight. New manager René Girard arrived to replace Rudi Garcia, who had departed for Roma, and despite the summer sales of Dimitri Payet and Lucas Digne his side finished third in Ligue 1 on 71 points, behind champions Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco, securing a place in the Champions League qualifying rounds.

The season was built on a remarkable defence, with just 26 goals conceded in 38 league matches. In the Coupe de France, Les Dogues edged past Caen 6-5 on penalties in the last 16 before bowing out at the quarter-final stage, and the league campaign closed with a record crowd of 48,960 packing the stadium for the visit of champions PSG.

Salomon Kalou top scored with 16 league goals (18 in all competitions), supported by Nolan Roux with 9 and a teenage Divock Origi. The undoubted star, though, was goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama, who kept 11 consecutive clean sheets and went 1,062 minutes without conceding, falling just 114 minutes short of Gaëtan Huard's all-time Ligue 1 record. His 21 clean sheets were the most in Europe's top five leagues and earned him the Marc-Vivien Foé Award as the best African player in Ligue 1.
