OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS - THIRD SHIRT 2014/2015

Olympique Lyonnais, founded in 1950, are a professional football club from Lyon, France. Known as Les Gones ("The Kids" in the local Franco-Provençal dialect) or simply OL, they are the most successful French side of the twenty-first century, having won a national record seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles between 2002 and 2008. The 2014/2015 campaign was one of the last played at their long-time home, the Stade de Gerland, before the move to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in January 2016.

The 2014/2015 season, in which this classy third shirt was worn, marked the most credible title challenge Lyon had mounted in years. Under Hubert Fournier, a youthful side led from the front by academy graduates pushed Paris Saint-Germain before finishing 2nd in Ligue 1 - eight points adrift of a runaway PSG outfit on their way to a domestic treble. At the winter break Lyon had been sitting top of the pile, two points ahead of Marseille.

European football was a brief affair. Eliminated by Romanian side Astra Giurgiu in the Europa League play-off round before the league had even properly begun, Lyon's focus reverted to the league and domestic cups, where the Coupe de France campaign ended in the Round of 16 and the Coupe de la Ligue at the quarter-finals.

It was a season to remember for striker Alexandre Lacazette, whose 27 league goals made him Ligue 1's top scorer and earned him the UNFP Player of the Year award. Behind him, twenty-one-year-old playmaker Nabil Fekir burst into the senior side with 13 goals and nine assists, earning a first France call-up and announcing himself as one of Europe's most coveted young talents - a status that would later carry him to a World Cup winner's medal.
