MANCHESTER UNITED - HOME SHIRT 2010/2011

Manchester United were founded in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR, the works team of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway, before taking their current name in 1902. They play at Old Trafford, the "Theatre of Dreams" that has stood in the shadow of the city since 1910, and are known the world over as the Red Devils. Few clubs carry a red shirt with quite the same weight of history.

The 2010/2011 season, during which this iconic home shirt was worn, was one of the most significant in the club's history. Under Sir Alex Ferguson, United were crowned English champions for a record 19th time, moving one clear of Liverpool's 18 and settling a long-running argument at the top of the English game. They gathered 80 points and went the entire league season unbeaten at Old Trafford, the fortress living up to its name.

There was a European campaign to match. United marched all the way to the Champions League final at Wembley, only to run into a Barcelona side at the peak of their powers, losing 3-1 to goals from Pedro, Lionel Messi and David Villa in a match many still regard as one of the finest team performances the competition has seen.

Dimitar Berbatov led the line beautifully, sharing the Premier League Golden Boot with Manchester City's Carlos Tevez on 20 goals, a tally that included five in a single game against Blackburn Rovers to equal the competition record. Add a bright debut season from Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and it was a campaign of records and glory.
