FBC MELGAR – ANNIVERSARY SHIRT 2022

FBC Melgar is a professional football club based in the southern Peruvian city of Arequipa. Founded in 1915, Melgar are one of Peru’s oldest football clubs and are affectionately nicknamed “El Dominó” due to their distinctive red and black kit design.

The club’s traditional colours are red and black, and they play their home matches at the Estadio Monumental Virgen de Chapi, which has a capacity of around 40,000 spectators.

In the 2022 Peruvian Liga 1 season, Melgar finished as one of the strongest sides in the country. They won the Torneo Apertura (the first phase of the Liga 1 campaign) topping the table and showcasing consistent form across the opening stage. Over the full league season, Melgar amassed a strong points total and progressed through the playoffs, overcoming Sporting Cristal in the semi-finals to reach the final of the Liga 1 Betsson championship. They faced Alianza Lima in the two-leg final, winning at home but ultimately losing on aggregate to finish runners-up in the national title race.

On the continental stage, FBC Melgar enjoyed one of their most memorable campaigns in the 2022 CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana. After advancing from the group stage, Melgar took on notable South American opposition (including Deportivo Cali and Internacional of Brazil) to reach the semi-finals of the competition. Their run ended against Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle in the last four.
