NAPOLI – THIRD SHIRT 2022/2023
SSCN Napoli (Società Sportiva Calcio Napoli) is a professional football club based in Naples, in the south of Italy. They are widely known as Gli Azzurri (The Blues) and I Partenopei (The Parthenopeans), a reference to the ancient Greek name for the city.
The club was founded in 1926, and home matches are played at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, which has a capacity of around 54,726 spectators. The stadium was renamed in 2020 in honour of the club’s greatest icon, who inspired the club to their first Serie A titles in 1986/1987 and 1989/1990, as well as a UEFA Cup triumph in 1989.
A fierce rivalry exists between Napoli and AS Roma, while historic southern rivalries also include Palermo FC.
In their early years during the 1920s, Napoli were mockingly nicknamed “The Donkeys” due to poor performances. The club later embraced the insult, adopting ‘O Ciuccio’ (the donkey) as an enduring and much-loved mascot.
Napoli wore this stylish third shirt during the 2022/2023 season, a historic campaign in which they won their third Serie A title - and their first in 33 years - under head coach Luciano Spalletti. Led by stars such as Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Napoli played an exciting, attacking style of football that captivated fans across Europe.
