PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - HOME SHIRT 2009/2010
Paris Saint-Germain, or PSG for short, are a professional football club based in Paris, France. Founded in 1970, the club's history is split sharply between a turbulent first four decades and the modern era of dominance that followed the 2011 Qatari takeover. Affectionately known as Les Parisiens or Rouge et Bleu ("Reds and Blues"), PSG play their home games at the Parc des Princes - a stadium that also serves as a venue for the French national rugby union team.
The 2009/2010 campaign, in which this classic home shirt was worn, came in the closing chapter of the club's pre-Qatari era and proved a season of stark contrast. Antoine Kombouaré, in his first full season as head coach, oversaw a disjointed Ligue 1 effort that saw PSG finish 13th - fighting for mid-table credibility rather than challenging at the top end of the table - with just 47 points from 12 wins, 11 draws and 15 defeats.
Domestic cup football told an entirely different story. PSG marched to the 2009/2010 Coupe de France final, where they met AS Monaco at the Stade de France on 1 May 2010. After a goalless 90 minutes, Guillaume Hoarau's 108th-minute strike in extra time settled it - a 1–0 win and the club's fourth Coupe de France title, giving Kombouaré his first piece of silverware in the dugout and the Parisian fans a rare cause for celebration in an otherwise frustrating year.
France-born Turkey international forward Mevlüt Erdinç enjoyed a brilliant debut season after his summer arrival from Sochaux, finishing as PSG's top scorer with 15 league goals and 19 in all competitions - a haul that earned him the club's Player of the Year award and made him the top scorer of the Coupe de France with four goals across the run.
