PORTUGAL - HOME SHIRT 2006
Portugal's national team are one of European football's most exciting sides, representing a nation whose passion for the game has produced flair and drama in equal measure. A Seleção das Quinas - "The Team of the Shields" - have established themselves as one of the international game's modern powers, with major silverware in the form of UEFA Euro 2016 and a record two UEFA Nations League titles, lifted in 2019 and 2025.
This legacy has been shaped by legendary figures such as Eusébio, Luís Figo, Rui Costa, Pepe, and Deco, whose brilliance has defined Portuguese football across generations.
Portugal wore this iconic home shirt at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany under Brazilian manager Luiz Felipe Scolari, the 2002 World Cup-winning coach who had taken charge in 2003. A Seleção produced their finest tournament run in forty years, winning all three group games against Angola, Iran and Mexico before edging the Netherlands 1-0 in a notorious round of 16 tie at Nuremberg - the match producing a record sixteen yellow cards and four reds. The quarter-final against England finished goalless after extra time, with goalkeeper Ricardo saving three English spot-kicks to send Portugal through, a 21-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo calmly converting the winning penalty. Narrow defeats to France in the semi-final and to Germany in the third-place play-off left Portugal fourth - their best World Cup finish since the golden 1966 run, and a fitting last major tournament for captain Luís Figo.
As of 2026, Portugal head to the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico as one of the tournament favourites. With a squad built around Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, Vitinha, Rafael Leão and a 41-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo - heading to his record sixth World Cup - A Seleção will be looking to convert a generation of golden footballers into a first ever World Cup triumph.
