QATAR - AWAY SHIRT 2024

Qatar are the pride of the Gulf, run by the Qatar Football Association since its founding in 1960 and known affectionately as Al-Annabi, or "The Maroon", after the deep colour that has defined their shirts for generations. Based in Doha and playing their biggest nights at the gleaming Lusail Stadium, they made history as hosts of the 2022 World Cup, the first ever staged in the Arab world. Add back-to-back continental crowns and you have a side that has grown from regional hopefuls into one of Asian football's genuine heavyweights.

For Qatar, 2024 was a year of glory. In January and February they hosted the 2023 AFC Asian Cup on home soil and won it as defending champions, all while wearing this understated away shirt through the tournament and pressing on with 2026 World Cup qualifying. Remarkably, they did it under Tintín Márquez, appointed only in December 2023 after Carlos Queiroz departed weeks before the defence began.

The run was ruthless and dramatic. Qatar topped their group with three wins and no goals conceded, then edged Palestine 2-1 in the last 16. A tense quarter-final against Uzbekistan finished 1-1, with goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham saving three spot-kicks in the shootout. They saw off Iran 3-2 in the semi, then beat first-time finalists Jordan 3-1 in front of a roaring Lusail crowd.

The night belonged to Akram Afif, who completed a hat-trick of penalties in the final and finished as top scorer with eight goals, deservedly named Player of the Tournament. Alongside the ever-dangerous Almoez Ali, he made Qatar the first team since Japan in 2004 to retain the title.
