SERBIA - AWAY SHIRT 2022

Serbia are governed by the Football Association of Serbia, the FSS, one of European football's proudest and most storied set-ups. Known affectionately as Orlovi, "The Eagles", they play their home fixtures at the imposing Stadion Rajko Mitić in Belgrade, the ground fans still call the Marakana. There is real history stitched into that badge, too. The modern Serbia side are the direct successor to the old Yugoslavia and to Serbia and Montenegro, so when they take the field they carry decades of Balkan footballing tradition on their shoulders.

2022 was a World Cup year, and what a way to get there. Serbia qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by topping their group ahead of Portugal, thanks to a last-gasp Aleksandar Mitrović winner in Lisbon. Under manager Dragan Stojković, the much-loved "Piksi", they wore this striking white away shirt as they mixed it with the world's best. The tournament itself proved a step too far. Drawn in a brutal Group G alongside Brazil, Switzerland and Cameroon, Serbia finished bottom on a single point and went out at the group stage.

The campaign had its thrills. After that famous Lisbon triumph, the Qatar group opened with a 2-0 defeat to Brazil, before a breathless 3-3 draw with Cameroon in which Serbia twice led. A 3-2 loss to Switzerland then sealed their exit. Key men shone throughout: Mitrović was prolific with eight goals in qualifying to top the scoring charts, while Dušan Vlahović and Sergej Milinković-Savić brought genuine class. Mitrović remains Serbia's all-time record scorer, a remarkable talent.
