SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY – HOME SHIRT 2024/2025
Sheffield Wednesday are one of two professional clubs in the English city of Sheffield, the other being Sheffield United. They have a strong rivalry and contest the Steel City Derby, Sheffield is famous for its steelworks. Founded in 1867, the club is one of the oldest in English football and has enjoyed notable success, having won the English league title four times and the FA Cup on three occasions. The Owls played their home matches at Hillsborough, a historic stadium with a capacity of just under 35,000.
Sheffield Wednesday wore this home shirt throughout the 2024/2025 campaign, a season defined as much by events off the pitch as on it. Ongoing financial difficulties cast a long shadow over the year, with tight budgets, wage issues, and regulatory challenges affecting recruitment and long-term planning. These issues created uncertainty around the club’s future and placed additional pressure on the squad in an already demanding Championship campaign.
On the pitch, Wednesday delivered a solid mid-table finish, ending the season 12th in the Championship, comfortably clear of relegation but outside the play-off places. Forward Josh Windass finished as the club’s top scorer with 13 goals, leading the team’s attacking efforts over the course of the season.
Club captain Barry Bannan once again played a central role and further cemented his status as a modern-day Sheffield Wednesday legend. His leadership, creativity in midfield, and commitment to the club during a period of financial instability were vital, with Bannan setting the tone both on and off the pitch throughout the campaign.
