SPAIN - HOME SHIRT 2011
La Roja (The Red One) represent one of international football's greatest modern dynasties. Based in Madrid, Spain's national team is renowned for its elegant, possession-based style and its extraordinary era of dominance from 2008 to 2012.
This home shirt was worn throughout 2011, the in-between year for La Roja as they sat in the middle of their golden era as reigning European and World champions. The design featured Spain's classic red base with subtle yellow and blue accents on the crest and trim, channelling the colours of the Spanish flag.
The 2011 campaign was a year of effortless dominance. Under head coach Vicente del Bosque, Spain rolled through their UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying group with a perfect record of eight wins from eight. They dispatched the Czech Republic twice (2-1 in Granada and 2-0 in Prague), thrashed Lithuania 3-1 and Liechtenstein 6-0, and capped off the campaign with a 3-1 victory over Scotland at the Estadio Rico Pérez in Alicante in October - David Silva's first-half brace and a David Villa strike sealing top spot in Group I with maximum points and a goal difference of +20.
The squad continued to hum along the well-oiled tiki-taka principles that had brought triumph at Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup. Iker Casillas captained from between the sticks, Xavi and Andrés Iniesta pulled the strings in midfield, and David Villa - the 2010 World Cup's joint-top scorer - remained the focal point in attack alongside the emerging David Silva. The squad was steadily refreshed with a new wave of talent including Cesc Fàbregas, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Juan Mata. With Euro 2012 just months away, La Roja appeared in pole position to become the first team in history to win three consecutive major international tournaments.
As of 2026, Spain will be hoping to emulate 2008 and 2010 where they won the Euros followed by the World Cup - and they are well placed to do so. They've been drawn in a favourable group - Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, and Cape Verde alongside themselves. Their young squad from 2024 has developed and are ready to strike on the World stage this time.
