SWITZERLAND - AWAY SHIRT 2020
Switzerland's national team are one of European football's most consistently competitive sides, representing a famously multilingual nation whose football identity has long been built on discipline, organisation and unshakeable team spirit. Affectionately known as the Nati, Switzerland have reached the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals on three occasions (1934, 1938, and as hosts in 1954) and the Euro 2020 quarter-finals.
This legacy has been shaped by legendary figures such as Stéphane Chapuisat - the 1990s talisman and 1997 Champions League winner with Borussia Dortmund - Karl Rappan, Alexander Frei, Köbi Kuhn, and modern captain Granit Xhaka, whose brilliance has defined Swiss football across generations.
Switzerland wore this attractive away shirt at the delayed UEFA Euro 2020, played in summer 2021 following the COVID-19 postponement. Drawn into a tough group with Italy, Wales and Turkey, the Nati squeezed through as one of the best third-placed teams after a final-round win against the Turks, before pulling off one of the tournament's great shocks in the round of 16 - eliminating reigning world champions France 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw. Their luck in shoot-outs ran out in the quarter-finals, where Spain edged them out from twelve yards after a 1-1 stalemate.
The shirt itself carries a beautiful piece of national symbolism: four differently coloured stripes representing Switzerland's four official languages - German, French, Italian and Rhaeto-Romanic - each made up of tiny Swiss crosses and arranged to evoke a mountain panorama.
As of 2026, the Nati are preparing for their next chapter at the FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, drawn into Group B alongside co-hosts Canada, Qatar and Bosnia and Herzegovina. With a squad built around captain Granit Xhaka - heading to his fourth consecutive World Cup - Inter Milan duo Manuel Akanji, and goalkeeper Yann Sommer and Rennais forward Breel Embolo, Switzerland travel to North America under manager Murat Yakin aiming to match or improve on their best-ever World Cup finish.
