ATLAS - HOME SHIRT 2025/2026
Atlas were founded in a Guadalajara bar in 1916 by a group of friends, several of whom had studied at Ampleforth College in North Yorkshire; it was that English school's colours they borrowed for the famous red and black. Known as Los Rojinegros (the Red-and-Blacks) or Los Zorros (the Foxes), they play at the vast Estadio Jalisco, the third-largest ground in Mexico, which staged matches at both the 1970 and 1986 World Cups, including Pele's Brazil.
The 2025/2026 season, in which this classic red-and-black home shirt by Charly was worn, marked the return of Diego Cocca, the coach who ended Atlas's 70-year title drought with back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022. After a lean opening Apertura tournament that saw them miss the play-offs, Atlas rallied in the Clausura, finishing sixth in the regular phase (seven wins, five draws, five defeats) to reach the liguilla quarter-finals.
There they were paired with eventual champions Cruz Azul. Atlas went down 3-2 in a thrilling first leg at the Estadio Jalisco, then lost the return 1-0, bowing out 4-2 on aggregate. As always, the season's fiercest emotions came in the Clasico Tapatio against city rivals Chivas, reputed to be the oldest derby in Mexican football.
Marshalled by long-serving captain Aldo Rocha and the vastly experienced Colombian international Camilo Vargas in goal, Atlas remain one of Mexico's most passionately supported clubs, roared on by La Fiel and famous fans including boxer Canelo Alvarez and singer Peso Pluma. For a club whose celebrated academy produced Rafael Marquez and Andres Guardado, the foundations under Cocca looked promising once more.
