AUSTRIA - AWAY SHIRT 2018
The Austria national football team, known as das Team or die Nationalmannschaft, represents one of football's most historically interesting nations. Governed by the Österreichischer Fußball-Bund (ÖFB), founded in 1904, Austria were a dominant European force in the 1930s under coach Hugo Meisl - their celebrated "Wunderteam" earned a fourth-place finish at the 1934 World Cup and silver at the 1936 Olympics. They play their home matches at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna, a 50,865-capacity arena named in honour of one of the country's greatest-ever managers.
The 2018 campaign, during which this clean, understated away shirt was worn, marked Austria's debut in the newly launched UEFA Nations League under head coach Franco Foda. Placed in League B, Group 3 alongside Bosnia and Herzegovina and Northern Ireland, Austria finished second - clinching their place with a crucial 2-1 victory away at Windsor Park on the final matchday, Valentino Lazaro's stoppage-time curler proving the difference. Bosnia and Herzegovina topped the group and earned promotion to League A, while Northern Ireland were relegated.
Austria's Nations League campaign was notable as much for what it represented as the results: a team rebuilding under Foda after failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. The group also doubled as a pathway into Euro 2020 qualification, giving every point real weight. The 0-0 draw with Bosnia in Vienna and the earlier 1-0 home win over Northern Ireland - Marko Arnautović with the goal - showed a side finding its shape. Arnautović was named Austrian Footballer of the Year in 2018, the standout individual in a squad beginning to take the form that would eventually carry them to the Euro 2020 round of 16.
As of 2026, Austria are preparing for their first FIFA World Cup since 1998, having topped UEFA qualifying Group H with six wins from eight matches before being drawn into Group J of the finals alongside defending champions Argentina, Algeria and Jordan. With a squad led by Real Madrid captain David Alaba, Bayern Munich's Konrad Laimer, Borussia Dortmund's Marcel Sabitzer and all-time leading scorer Marko Arnautović, Das Team travel to North America under Rangnick aiming to progress beyond the group stage for the first time in over half a century.
