CAPE VERDE – THIRD SHIRT 2024
Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is an archipelago and island nation in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of West Africa. The islands were a former Portuguese colony and gained independence in 1975.
The population of the archipelago is just under 525,000.
The national team - nicknamed the Cape Verde national football team, also known as “The Blue Sharks” - reached their highest FIFA ranking of 27th in February 2014. As of November 19th 2025, they are ranked 68th globally.
Cape Verde have become regular participants in the Africa Cup of Nations, qualifying in 2013, 2015, 2021, and 2023.
They wore this clean third shirt, which features a map of the archipelago, at the 2023 AFCON tournament (played in early 2024). During that tournament, they reached the quarter-finals, eventually losing on penalties to South Africa, after a 0–0 draw.
On the 13th of October 2025, Cape Verde made history by qualifying - for the first time ever - for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They secured qualification with a 3–0 victory over Eswatini. At the time of their qualification, Cape Verde was the second-smallest country ever to reach a men’s World Cup finals by population, behind only Iceland.
Their group for the tournament consists of themselves, Spain, Uruguay, and Saudi Arabia. They'll be hoping more than expecting to get out of the group, but with the tournament being expanded, all it might take is one win against Saudi Arabia.
