CARMARTHEN TOWN AFC - HOME SHIRT 2024/2025
Carmarthen Town AFC are a Welsh semi-professional football club founded in 1948 in the historic market town of Carmarthen, the ancient capital of West Wales and the largest settlement in Carmarthenshire. Known to fans as Hen Aur ("The Old Gold") for their distinctive gold-and-black home colours, Carmarthen - or Clwb Pêl-droed Tref Caerfyrddin in Welsh - play their home matches at Richmond Park, the compact 3,000-capacity ground on the banks of the River Towy that has been home since 1952. Carmarthen spent 24 unbroken years in the top-tier Cymru Premier before their relegation in 2019/2020, and remain one of the great established names of Welsh league football with four UEFA qualifications, a Welsh Cup (2006/2007) and three Welsh League Cups in the trophy cabinet.
The 2024/2025 campaign - during which this striking home shirt was worn - was Carmarthen's fifth season in the second-tier Cymru South since relegation, and one of steady mid-table consolidation under manager Mark Aizlewood. Aizlewood, in his second spell as head coach after first arriving back in January 2012, guided The Old Gold to a 7th-place finish out of sixteen sides on 45 points, with 12 wins, 9 draws and 9 defeats from 30 matches. Newly-promoted Llanelli Town lifted the Cymru South title and returned to the top flight, while Carmarthen's neighbours Trethomas Bluebirds, Newport City and Trefelin BGC filled out the top four.
The bigger story of the year came off the pitch. Aizlewood - one of the most respected figures in Welsh football and the man responsible for two Welsh League Cup triumphs during his first spell at Richmond Park - announced during the season that he would be stepping down at the end of the campaign. Supporters said their farewells before a late U-turn saw him commit to a further year in charge, keeping The Old Gold's rebuild firmly on course.
Off the pitch, the club continued to enjoy some of the biggest and most passionate home crowds in the division - a reminder that, seven years after relegation, Carmarthen remain a Cymru Premier club in waiting.
