CLUB DEPORTIVO OLIMPIA - THIRD SHIRT 2023/2024
Club Deportivo Olimpia are the grandest name in Honduran football, founded on 12 June 1912 in the capital, Tegucigalpa. Known as El León (The Lion) and Los Albos for their all-white kit, they play their home matches at the Estadio Nacional Chelato Uclés. No club in the country has won more, and by 2024 their trophy cabinet stood comfortably clear of every rival.
The 2023/2024 season, during which this striking third shirt was worn, was as good as it gets for the Old Lion. Under Argentine coach Pedro Troglio, Olimpia swept both halves of the campaign, taking the Apertura 2023 for their 37th league title and the Clausura 2024 for their 38th. That completed a third straight tetracampeonato, four consecutive tournament crowns, and left them 20 titles clear of nearest rivals Motagua. Troglio's Clausura win was his eighth in Honduras, making him the most decorated coach in Liga Nacional history.
Both finals delivered drama. In the Apertura 2023 decider, Olimpia beat Motagua 2-1 at the Chelato Uclés, Jerry Bengtson levelling just after half time and Yustin Arboleda heading a 92nd-minute winner. The Clausura 2024 final went the distance against Marathón, Olimpia winning the first leg 3-1 in Tegucigalpa before a 2-2 draw in San Pedro Sula sealed a 5-3 aggregate.
Bengtson led the line all season, finishing as top scorer in the Apertura 2023 with eight goals, while Arboleda saved his biggest contribution for that stoppage-time header that clinched the 37th title. For a club used to winning, a double-title season still stood out as one to savour.
