COQUIMBO UNIDO - HOME SHIRT 2024

Coquimbo Unido are one of Chilean football's most romantic clubs, founded on 30 August 1958 in the northern port city of Coquimbo. They are known to everyone as Los Piratas (The Pirates), a nod to the buccaneers who once raided the coastline, and they answer just as happily to Aurinegros (Gold and Black). They play at the Estadio Municipal Francisco Sánchez Rumoroso, an 18,750-seat ground built in the shape of a ship to honour the city's seafaring heritage, one of the great quirks in South American football.

The 2024 season carried real weight for a club still re-establishing itself in the top flight. Fernando Díaz, in charge since 2022, guided the side through most of the campaign before his cycle ended in October, with Esteban González soon taking the reins. Los Piratas finished a creditable eighth on 45 points, level with seventh but edged out of continental qualification on goal difference. It was during this campaign that they wore the classy home shirt in the familiar gold and black.

There was continental adventure too. In the 2024 Copa Sudamericana they saw off Universidad Católica 2-0 to reach the group stage, where they were drawn in a tough Group H alongside Argentina's Racing, Paraguay's Sportivo Luqueño and Brazil's Red Bull Bragantino. They finished third and bowed out, no disgrace given that Racing went on to lift the trophy that year.

Panama international Cecilio Waterman led the scoring charts with 8 goals, a genuine fan favourite before his 2025 departure. Nicolás Johansen chipped in with 7 and playmaker Matías Palavecino added 6, the trio driving much of what made 2024 such a spirited season on Chile's northern coast.
