COVENTRY CITY – AWAY SHIRT 2023/2024
Coventry City Football Club is an English professional football club based in Coventry, England. Founded in August of 1883, the club has a long and rich history; they were winners of the FA Cup in 1987 and were also founding members of the Premier League in its inaugural season in 1992. Currently, the club compete in the EFL Championship, the second highest division of football in England.
The Sky Blues returned to play matches back in Coventry at the CBS Arena in the 2021/2022 season after a long standing dispute.
The Sky Blues wore this away shirt in the 2023/2024 season, when the club attempted to go one step better than the previous season (where they were defeated by Luton Town on penalties in the playoff final). The shirt recreates the away shirt they wore in 1996/1997 season, which became famous when Chelsea visited Coventry and forgot their kit and so had to wear this shirt (Coventry won the match!).
Coventry fell short of promotion, finishing The Championship season in 9th but the year will be remembered for a remarkable cup run which ended up with a brilliant FA Cup semi-final where the club came back from 3-0 down against Manchester United to level the match before scoring a late winner that was controversially ruled out by VAR.
United went on to win the match on penalties.
Also worth noting; Louis, Rob & Kellie from the Surprise Shirts family are massive Coventry fans!
