DEFENSOR SPORTING - AWAY SHIRT 2025
Defensor Sporting are one of the most respected names in Uruguayan football, tracing their roots to 1913 and the founding of Club Atletico Defensor, before a 1989 merger with Sporting Club gave the club its current name. Based in the Punta Carretas neighbourhood of Montevideo and famous for their violet shirts, they play at the Estadio Luis Franzini. In 1976 they made history as the first club from outside the Penarol and Nacional duopoly to win the Uruguayan title.
The 2025 season, during which this classy away shirt was worn, was another strong campaign for La Viola. Under coach Ignacio Ithurralde they finished 5th in the Liga AUF Uruguaya, doing enough to secure qualification for the 2026 Copa Sudamericana and another crack at continental football.
A top-five finish in a division dominated by Uruguay's giants is no small feat, and Defensor's consistency across the annual table kept them in the hunt for South American qualification right through the season.
Brian Montenegro led the scoring with 5 league goals, 6 in all competitions, spearheading a side that has long prided itself on developing young talent and punching above its weight. For a club of Defensor's history and resources, another Sudamericana ticket represented a job well done.
