DEPORTIVO COATEPEQUE - HOME SHIRT 2024/2025
Deportivo Coatepeque, officially Coatepeque Fútbol Club, are a Guatemalan professional football club founded in 1967 in the western city of Coatepeque, in the Quetzaltenango Department. Originally established under the name Deportivo Independencia before adopting their current identity, the club are known to fans as Los Diablos ("The Devils") for their famous red-and-black home colours, and play their home matches at the Estadio Israel Barrios. Their fiercest rivalry is with fellow Quetzaltenango side Xelajú MC in the Derbi de Quetzaltenango, one of the most passionately contested derbies in Guatemalan football.
The 2024/2025 campaign, during which this striking home shirt was worn, was Coatepeque's first season back in the second-tier Primera División de Ascenso, following relegation from the top-flight Liga Nacional at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
The Apertura half of the season proved to be a slow-burn affair. Coatepeque were placed in Group A and finished 7th on 24 points from 18 matches with a +1 goal difference, a mid-table return that left the promotion race just out of reach. It was a season of transition, with the squad rebuilt following relegation.
Off the pitch, Coatepeque remain one of Guatemalan football's proudest small-city clubs, backed by the passionate support of the Quetzaltenango faithful and holders of the memorable Apertura 2022 Primera División de Ascenso title, a reminder that the top flight is never far away.
