Fortuna Düsseldorf are a German football club based in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, currently competing in the 2. Bundesliga. They play their home matches at the Merkur Spiel-Arena, an impressive modern stadium with a capacity of 54,600.

Founded in 1895, Fortuna became a major presence in German football from the early 1920s and were regulars in the top flight up until the formation of the Bundesliga in 1963. The club’s honours include one German championship (1933) and two DFB-Pokal victories in 1979 and 1980. Their most memorable European moment came in 1979 when they reached the Cup Winners’ Cup final, narrowly losing to Barcelona.

After climbing back up the divisions in the 2000s with two promotions, Fortuna returned to the 2. Bundesliga - where this stylish home shirt was worn. They enjoyed an excellent 2009/2010 campaign, coming close to securing a second straight promotion, ultimately finishing just three points short of the promotion play-offs. Their DFB-Pokal run was brief, ending in the first round, but the league season was undeniably a success.
