FRANCE – HOME SHIRT 2002
France’s national team stand among international football’s elite, representing a nation with a rich and successful history on the world stage. Les Bleus had recently enjoyed the pinnacle of international success, winning the 1998 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2000, establishing a generation of players renowned for their technical skill and winning mentality.
This legacy included iconic figures such as Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Lilian Thuram, and Didier Deschamps.
For the 2002 campaign, France returned in their classic deep blue home shirt as they headed to the FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan, aiming to defend their World Cup title. This shirt, simple yet elegant, reflected the team’s identity.
The tournament, however, proved catastrophic for the reigning champions. France were eliminated in the group stage without scoring a single goal, suffering shocking defeats to Senegal and Denmark while drawing with Uruguay. It marked one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history and a humbling moment for a team that had dominated world football for four years.
As of 2026, France comfortably secured automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup, finishing top of their qualifying group with a series of dominant performances. They have been drawn into a competitive group alongside Mexico, Japan, and Nigeria. With immense talent in their squad, including Kylian Mbappé, William Saliba, and Ousmane Dembélé, France head into the tournament as one of the favourites and will be hoping to reclaim their crown after coming so close in 2022.
